Many expecting mothers who consider having a doula wonder if her partner will be supportive of the idea. Some dads-to-be are afraid that their role might be replaced in the birth process. Other fathers wonder if having a doula is really a benefit to the mom if they as a partner are supportive or if a good OB, nurse, or midwife is present. I address more of the benefits to having both a doula and loving partner present at the birth on my FAQ page, but I thought I’d share with you what a couple of the fathers of my clients had to say about their perspectives on having a doula. This will be the first in my series called The Doula, A Dad’s Perspective. Enjoy, and share it with your friends!

I had the immense privileged and pleasure of being the birth photographer for one of my friends, Brandi, last week. It was the birth of her third child, a boy. She had him in the comfort of her home with a wonderful local midwife, Vicky Wells, from Labor of Love Birth Center in Tyler, TX. Though it was different than being a doula, I loved being able to capture those special moments of labor and birth! Here are a few images from that birth; see my Birth Photography page for more.
