  • Cherish The Miracle of Your Baby’s Birth Day

The experience of riding the waves of labor. Your strength, your determination. Your partner's excitement, concern, joy. The moment of birth arrives! First look. First breathe. Baby's head settling on your chest for the first time. First little squeaky cries. Her little eyes looking into yours. His tiny mouth rooting for nourishment, for comfort. This moment will never happen again. No matter how many babies have been welcomed into the world, your baby, THIS baby, has his own special day. A miraculous day. A day that can be preserved for you, your family, and your sweet baby for her lifetime.

I'd love to be a part of your special day, to document this miraculous journey as it unfolds. Mama Matters offers birth photography to the East Texas and DFW areas and doula services to the Greater Tyler area.

It was so great to be able to capture the arrival of sweet twins, J & J (a lovely boy and a beautiful girl!), at ETMC in Tyler, TX. Due to Baby B (the girl) being breech, they had to be birthed in the OR (all went perfectly- the Mama was a rockstar!). Older 3-yr-old brother was very anxiously waiting outside the OR door to meet his new siblings! So many family member came to welcome the gorgeous babies. Welcome to the world, J & J!!

It was my first birth to attend at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital and what a lovely one at that! An incredibly strong mama, a supportive dad and grandmother, a great nurse, and a respectful doctor all involved in bringing this sweet baby girl into the world. The most amazing part of it to me was when little Baby E was born, she was SO wide-eyed and alert as soon as she was out! Just gazed straight at her mama! It was beautiful. What a blessing to serve this family!

All of those births can be positive! A positive birth can occur in a home, a hospital, or a birth center. It can happen with twin births, breech births, medicated labors, Cesarean sections, inductions, waterbirths. A positive birth can be attended by an obstetrician, a midwife, or no one present at all.

What do you need for a positive birth? Although there can be many components for experiencing this type of birth, these are my:

Top Five Components To a Positive Birth

  1. The agenda of the mother’s care providers/support team is not only “a healthy mom and baby”. After that goal is the very close second goal of making her feel 100% supported and respected.
  2. The mother’s concerns are listened to and her questions are answered fully and respectfully. She understands her options and her rights.
  3. The mother’s thoughts and opinions are taken into consideration and are treated as important.
  4. The pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum time is communicated to the mother in a warm, positive light while still sharing realistic options and accurate information.
  5. The mother is treated like the one in charge… which she is.
